Germans do not always differentiate between a studio and a 1-room apartment. So studios are often advertised as 1-Zimmer Wohnung.

Most owners in the building have their own washing machine anyway, and are less likely to use it.

What else you need to know when renting a 1-room apartment

Please always check how many tenants are accepted. Landlords often rent out studio apartments to only one person since the costs for electricity, water etc. are calculated for one person only.

When renting out to one person, there is also less wear and tear. If you want to move in alone and your partner will come to Berlin in a few months, you should not expect that he or she can also move in with you. It might be possible, but it could be that the landlord charges a higher rent or it could also happen, that the other person won't be allowed to move in with you.

All this should be communicated in the beginning, when you start your search for your furnished flat. Please also note that you cannot accommodate visitors for a longer period of time either.
